Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) 2023: Claas Reiss hosted by Hagiwara Projects
Claas Reiss is pleased to announce its participation in the third edition of Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) 2023. The gallery will be hosted by Tokyo, Japan based Hagiwara Projects in a shared booth and present new works by gallery artists Daniel Graham Loxton and Jens Fröberg, in collaboration with Hagiwara Projects and works by British artist Gabriel Hartley.
Founded in 2021, ACK presents a new model of art fair that is rooted in the spirit of collaboration, its ‘Gallery Collaborations’ section pairs a local Japanese gallery with its international peer in a shared booth, while ‘Kyoto Meetings’ features artists with distinct connections to Kyoto. ACK will take place in the Kyoto International Conference Center from 27 October to 30 October 2023 and welcome 64 galleries from 16 countries and 24 cities, including 33 exhibitors presenting at the fair for the first time. Hagiwara Projects was established in 2013 in Tokyo and focusses on introducing Japanese and international emerging and mid-career artists across various media, including paintings, sculpture, film and photography. Daniel Graham Loxton (b. 1987) received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2009. He has shown widely in the US and Europe, including recent solo shows at Louis Reed in New York, NY (2022), Claas Reiss in London, UK (2021), and Jir Sandel in Copenhagen, DK (2021), which included a book of drawings by the artist with an introduction by Los Angeles-based curator Chris Sharp. The Patron Saint of Turning at Claas Reiss was Loxton’s first solo show in the UK, followed by a presentation of new paintings with the gallery at Art Brussels in 2022. Recent group exhibitions include, Renaissancestrasse, at Envy 6011 in Wellington, NZ (2023), A Minor Constellation at Chris Sharp Gallery in Los Angeles (2022) and Seeds, Voids, and Tailored Cloth, organized by Claas Reiss and hosted by Conceptual Fine Arts in Milan (2022). ACK in Kyoto, Japan (October 2023) with Claas Reiss, hosted by Hagiwara Projects marks the artist’s latest collaboration with the gallery. Loxton lives and works in Cold Spring, NY.
Jens Fröberg (born 1983 in Malmö, Sweden) graduated from Valand Konsthögskola Göteborg, Sweden, in 2009 and Akademie der bildenden Künste Vienna, Austria, in 2017 where he is was awarded the Akademiefreundespreis. He had various solo exhibitions in his native Sweden, a duo show in 2021 with Lazar Lyutakov at Simian, an independent exhibition space for experimental contemporary art located in Ørestad, Copenhagen, and an institutional solo show at the MUSA Startgalerie of Wien Museum in Vienna in 2022. ‘Alte Freunde, neue Freunde’ at Claas Reiss in late 2021 was his first exhibition in the UK and ’Seeds, Voids, and Tailored Cloth’ in 2022 (Claas Reiss hosted by Conceptual Fine Arts in Milan, Italy) his second cooperation with the gallery, followed by ACK in Kyoto, Japan in October 2023. In 2023 the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm awarded him the Vera and Göran Agnekil’s scholarship and he was included in the inaugural group show of Gauli Zitter in Brussels, Belgium. Fröberg lives and works in Malmö and Vienna.
